A consortium of Seasus, Ataria (www.ataria.mt) and ADLC (adlc.eu) has won the Maltese Government's tender for an automated drone service linking Mater Dei Hospital in Malta with Gozo General Hospital, and is now making the necessary preparations to launch the service in Q1 2027.
The tender, launched by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer together with Gozo General Hospital, aims to improve Gozitan patients' access to treatment without the ferry crossing to Malta.
The service will initially handle eleven types of medicines, including monoclonal antibodies, alongside the swift transfer of blood samples, fluids and tissue for faster diagnoses. It coincides with an expansion of Gozo General Hospital's Day Care Unit from six to fifteen patients, and the network is expected to eventually extend to other entities including San Vinċenz de Paul and the Ċensu Moran Centre.
Within the consortium, Seasus is responsible for cybersecurity and digital systems integration: securing the data and communications pipeline around every flight, and connecting the service into the hospitals' own IT and laboratory systems so that each sample or delivery is tracked, authenticated and accounted for from dispatch to delivery.
The consortium is now working through the preparations needed to bring the service into operation, with launch targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
