€13,136 – this is the amount that to date has been donated to L-Istrina by 820 donors who happen to be Facebook members and has contributed to the €2.3M global sum collected for The Malta Community Chest Fund.
This year all those with a Facebook account had a very original way of donating money to L-Istrina, thanks to Seasus, Malta's Leading Internet Technologies Provider. The company staff donated time from their Christmas holidays to develop a unique Facebook application for L-Istrina, that enabled all members to make their donation online with their debit or credit cards in a secure environment. Seasus management worked hand-in-hand with L-Istrina especially on Sunday 26th, live from The Lufthansa Technik hanger where all the activities were happening.
During the 13 hour TV show marathon for charity, the Facebook Donation Application was installed by over 4,000 persons, and encouraging comments were being fed on the page by many donors.
Kenneth Bone who was constantly monitoring the online donations was ecstatic with the results. “This was the first year that L-Istrina accepted donations via Facebook and considering the innovation, the word spread very quickly around Facebook and we are very satisfied that our technology for social media has contributed towards the success of Malta’s biggest charity event. We have invested heavily in software and applications for social networks like Facebook and Twitter, but the satisfaction we got from this Donation App surpasses that of any other work we have done so far.”
This one-of-a-kind application is linked to L-Istrina’s Official Facebook Page which to date boasts over 12,000 members thanks to a young gentleman, Glen Chircop Galea who had founded this page over a year ago thanks to his enthusiasm and dedication towards this fundraising activity.
This year L-Istrina – F’Idejk has been chosen by the Malta Community Chest Fund as L-Istrina’s Official Page on Facebook, the world’s largest social network.

The application was entirely initiated, developed and sponsored by Seasus Limited and Property Book for The Malta Community Chest Fund as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, and will remain active for donations until 6th January 2010.
